Family Photographer in Gran Canaria

Maspalomas, Amadores, Puerto Rico, Las Palmas

You finally got everyone to Gran Canaria. The flights, the luggage, the snacks, the kids who asked “are we there yet?” forty times. And yet, when you look through your phone at the end of the trip, there’s barely a photo with all of you in it — because someone always has to hold the camera.

A family photoshoot fixes that. Ninety minutes, one good place on the island, and the whole family in the frame. Not stiff studio portraits — real moments: running on the sand, piggyback rides, the little one refusing to put shoes back on.

I’m Slavik, a family photographer in Gran Canaria since 2015. I’ve photographed toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, and families of ten.

Why Families Book a Photoshoot on Holiday

Many families tell me the same thing: they don’t have a single good photo of all of them together. Life is busy at home, and the holiday is the one week when everyone is relaxed, tanned and in the same place.

Some come to celebrate something — a new baby, a big birthday, three generations travelling together. Others just want one photo good enough to print and hang on the wall. And grandparents almost always end up with a copy.

How I Work with Kids

Kids don’t need to sit still, and I don’t expect them to. We play, walk, race to the water and build things in the sand — and I catch the moments in between. That’s usually where the best photos are.

If you have several lively little ones, it can take a bit more time, and that’s fine. I plan the session around naps and snacks, keep it moving, and I don’t mind a few minutes of chaos.

For the adults: you don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll tell you where to stand, where to put your hands and where to look — and when to stop looking at me and just enjoy your kids.

Best Places for Family Photos in Gran Canaria

I photograph families all over the island. Please let me know where you’re staying and the ages of your children, and I’ll recommend the best location for your family photos.

Maspalomas Dunes and Beach

The classic choice — soft sand, wide open space and warm evening light. Kids love running down the dunes, and the beach and the lighthouse are only a short walk away. Read about a family session at Maspalomas.

Meloneras and Your Hotel

The promenade along the sea in Meloneras is easy with a pushchair and has the ocean right behind you. Hotel gardens and pool terraces in the hotel zone work well too — handy with small children, as you don’t have to go anywhere.

Puerto de Mogán, Puerto Rico and Taurito

Staying in the southwest? Mogán has colourful houses, bougainvillaea and little canals. Puerto Rico and Taurito have calm, sheltered beaches — good for younger kids who want to splash while we shoot.

Las Palmas: Las Canteras and El Confital

In the north, Las Canteras is a long city beach with calm water and lovely afternoon light. El Confital is quieter, with volcanic rocks and the Las Palmas skyline in the background.

Green Gardens and the North

For something greener, the Jardín Botánico Viera y Clavijo has cactus gardens and old trees, and the north of the island has vineyards and the deep valley of Barranco de las Vacas. A nice change if your kids have had enough sand.

When to Shoot: Light and Time of Day

For most families, the best time is the last 90 minutes before sunset. The light is soft and golden, nobody squints, and the sand has cooled down for little feet.

With very young children, an early morning session can work better — the beach is quiet and the kids are fresh. The weather allows outdoor shoots all year round.

What to Wear

Wear what you’re comfortable in, but plan it as a family. The photos look best when everyone matches in style — all casual, all a little dressed up, or all sporty — in two or three colours that go together.

Light, natural colours look beautiful on the beach and in the dunes. Avoid big logos and neon. Not sure? Send me a photo of the options and I’ll help you choose.

FAQ: Family Photoshoot in Gran Canaria

How much does a family photoshoot in Gran Canaria cost?

A family of 2–3 is €250 for 90 minutes with 150+ edited photos. Larger families of 4–7 or more start from €300, with 200+ photos. You pay after the shoot.

What if my kids won’t sit still?

That’s normal, and you don’t need them to. I keep the session playful — walking, running, games in the sand — and photograph the real moments in between. Lively kids sometimes need a bit more time, and that’s fine.

Where is the best place for family photos in Gran Canaria?

The Maspalomas Dunes and beach are the most popular. Meloneras and hotel gardens are easiest with small children. Puerto de Mogán is good for colour, and Las Canteras if you’re staying in Las Palmas.

What should we wear for a family photoshoot?

Choose one style for everyone — casual, smart or sporty — in two or three colours that go together. Light, natural tones look best on the sand. Send me your options and I’ll help.

What’s the best time of day for family photos?

The last 90 minutes before sunset gives soft, warm light and cooler sand. For babies and toddlers, an early morning session is often easier.

See you soon in Gran Canaria. — Slavik
